World Cup 2026 Mexico City Trip Planner for Couples

Fanway Team·2026-05-16·4 min read

Mexico City for couples is one of the most underrated travel experiences in the world — and the World Cup makes it unmissable. Cobblestoned colonial streets, extraordinary food, and football culture unlike anywhere else.

What Fanway Plans For Couples in Mexico City

When building a couple's trip to CDMX, Fanway factors in:

  • 3km radius from your location for nearby recommendations
  • Romantic and scenic venues — rooftop restaurants, colonial architecture, garden cafés
  • Safe and well-connected neighbourhoods — Roma, Condesa, Polanco
  • Match day routing to Estadio Azteca via Metro that works for two
  • Altitude acclimatisation — lighter Day 1, building gradually

This is what that looks like on the ground.

Day 1 — Arrive Together, Explore Together

Morning: Coyoacán. Take the Metro south to this colonial neighbourhood on your first morning — a gentle introduction to Mexico City that doesn't overwhelm. The cobblestoned streets, the central square, and the Frida Kahlo museum make for a beautiful slow morning. Get coffee and pastries at one of the café terraces on the square.

Afternoon: Head back toward Condesa for lunch. El Parnita on Yucatán Street — a neighbourhood institution with excellent Mexican food and an atmosphere that feels authentically local. Then walk through Parque México, one of the most beautiful parks in the city, for the afternoon.

Evening: Dinner in Roma Norte. This is the city's most vibrant evening neighbourhood for couples — restaurant terraces, mezcal bars, and the street life of Álvaro Obregón. Book a table at Contramar on Durango for tuna tostadas and excellent fish — one of the best restaurants in Latin America.

Day 2 — Match Day

Morning: Chapultepec Park together — the castle at the top has sweeping views across the city and is genuinely romantic in the morning before the crowds. Walk through the park slowly, stop at one of the food stalls for a snack, and take your time.

Afternoon: Metro Line 2 to Tasqueña, then Tren Ligero to Estadio Azteca. The journey takes about 50 minutes from the city centre. Estadio Azteca holds 87,000 people — the atmosphere on match day is something you will not forget together.

Evening: Post-match, return to Roma or Condesa for a late dinner. Mexican restaurants open late and are built for long evenings. Pick anywhere that has an outdoor table available and settle in for the night.

Day 3 — The City, Your Way

Morning: Polanco for breakfast. Mexico City's most elegant neighbourhood — tree-lined Presidente Masaryk Avenue, excellent bakeries and brunch spots, and a calm, unhurried pace. Breakfast at any of the spots on the avenue with outdoor seating.

Afternoon: Palacio de Bellas Artes together — the Diego Rivera murals and the building itself are extraordinary. Allow 90 minutes. Then walk through Alameda Central, the city's oldest park, toward Centro Histórico.

Evening: Rooftop bar in Centro Histórico — Bar La Opera on 5 de Mayo Street for a classic Mexican cantina experience, or the rooftop of Hotel Downtown Mexico for city views and cocktails. A proper final evening.

Your Plan Should Know You Both Better Than This

This is a starting point. A generic couple's plan for Mexico City.

Fanway builds it around where you're both staying, your specific match dates, and recommendations that account for Mexico City's complexity — altitude, neighbourhood safety, and the enormous distances between parts of the city.
