World Cup 2026 Kansas City Fan Guide: Arrowhead Stadium, Fan Bars & Trip Planning

Fanway Team·2026-05-01·3 min read

Kansas City is the surprise package of the US host cities. Smaller than New York or LA, but with a walkable downtown, an elite BBQ scene, and a fanbase — built around Sporting KC — that knows how to watch football. The jazz history doesn't hurt either.

Getting to Arrowhead Stadium

Arrowhead Stadium sits in the Truman Sports Complex, about 10 miles southeast of downtown Kansas City. It seats 76,000 and is one of the louder outdoor venues in American sports.

By car: The primary option. Arrowhead is surrounded by parking. Budget extra time post-match — exits take 30–45 minutes on busy days.

By rideshare: Works well pre-match. Post-match, walk away from the stadium and request pickup from a quieter spot to cut wait times.

By shuttle: KC Scout and several private operators run match-day shuttles from the Power & Light District downtown. Check tournament-specific transport information as game day approaches.

Best Fan Bars in Kansas City

The Pitch (Westport): The football-first bar in KC. Full Premier League and international calendar, strong craft beer selection, Westport's best outdoor space.

Johnny's Tavern (multiple): Kansas City institution. Reliable screens, cold beer, no pretension. The Westport location is best for pre-match.

Torn Label Brewing (West Bottoms): Not a sports bar but shows big matches and has a great industrial space. Worth the detour on a non-match day too.

Charlie Hooper's (Brookside): Neighbourhood bar with a genuine football following. Smaller and more local than Westport options.

Where to Stay in Kansas City

Power & Light District: Downtown's entertainment hub. Hotels at multiple price points, walkable to bars and restaurants, shuttle access to the stadium.

Crossroads Arts District: Kansas City's most interesting neighbourhood. Gallery buildings, independent restaurants, First Fridays art walk. Good mid-range hotel options.

Country Club Plaza: Upscale Spanish-architecture shopping and dining district. Well-maintained, easy parking, quieter in the evenings.

Westport: The nightlife district. Staying here puts you in the middle of the pre and post-match action.

Neighbourhoods Worth Your Time

Crossroads Arts District: The creative heart of KC. Street murals, converted warehouses, excellent coffee at Messenger Coffee.

18th & Vine: The historic jazz district. The American Jazz Museum and Negro Leagues Baseball Museum are both here and both worth your time.

Westport: Where Kansas City actually goes out. Dense bar and restaurant strip that fills up on match evenings.

River Market: Farmers' market on weekends, good brunch options, close to the Missouri River.

Food You Cannot Miss

Joe's Kansas City Bar-B-Que (multiple): Consistently named among the best BBQ in the world. The Z-Man sandwich — brisket, smoked provolone, onion rings — is the definitive KC barbecue experience. Multiple locations including a gas station that should not work but absolutely does.

Q39 (Midtown): Competition-style BBQ from a pitmaster who wins awards. More restaurant, less shack, same quality.

Fiorella's Jack Stack (multiple): The upscale KC BBQ option. Lamb ribs, cheesy corn bake, and a wine list. Proper dinner territory.

Novel (Crossroads): The best fine dining in Kansas City. Ryan Brazeal's tasting menu is restrained, seasonal, and very good.

Corvino Supper Club (Crossroads): Italian-influenced, great cocktail program, one of the most consistent dinner experiences in the city.
